CLIMATE CHANGE

The greenhouse effect is a natural process in which carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor,
mainly carbon dioxide, are concentrated in the atmosphere to keep the atmospheric temperature
stable.
Since the industrial revolution, the increases in CO2 emissions are evident, for the year
2013 the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States - NOAA,
reported that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere exceeded for the first time the 400 parts per million
(ppm).
The most harmful greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. CO2, atmospheric emissions of
which are the highest (50%), is the main factor responsible for the current and growing
global warming. CO2 is emitted in all combustion processes and, therefore, is directly
related to industrial growth, the use of fossil fuels, as well as increased road
traffic.
According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), global emissions of
carbon dioxide must be reduced to a minimum of half the level issued in 1990, by the
year 2050 at the latest, to avoid a catastrophic change in
climate.

In principle, there are only two possibilities to reduce CO2 pollution:

1. Reduction of CO2 emissions

The use of fossil fuel can be reduced through technical means. The French government has presented a package with no less than 96 measures ranging from the control of industrial CO2 emissions to the change of freight transport from the highway to the train, and the reduction of taxes on sales of low-energy consumption products.

2. CO2 Offset

Plants have the ability to convert CO2 into oxygen. Forests are the lungs of our planet and thus, help determine the global climate. Despite this, many tropical forests have been cut or burned at breakneck speed. The objective should be to stop the demolition and preserve the "pulmonary" function of these forests through intentional use. In addition, by optimizing biodiversity, an improvement in the absorption capacity (destruction of carbon dioxide) can be achieved. We hope that after five years of partial cleaning, the maximum biodiversity of our forests will be achieved.
Developed countries will reduce or offset CO2 emissions. This is the only way to stabilize the production of greenhouse gases and avoid catastrophic changes in climate. The challenge is to achieve growth and a continuous increase in everyone's living standards in a way that our common environment will not be destroyed.
